About the Implementation of the BEVs in Surface Mining Guideline Project
Surface mines are facing growing uncertainty around Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) readiness—charging infrastructure, energy demand, workforce capability, mine planning, and the real impacts on productivity. GMG’s Implementation of BEVs in Surface Mining Guideline is designed to cut through that uncertainty and focus on what it actually takes to deploy BEVs in large-scale surface operations.
How this Guideline Project will help the mining industry
- Provides implementation-focused guidance rather than high-level electrification ambition.
- Helps companies understand infrastructure and power management requirements early in the mine planning process.
- Supports risk-informed investment decisions for BEVs at scale.
- Addresses operational realities including mine plan variability, battery limitations, charging logistics, safety risks, and workforce upskilling.
- Builds alignment across industry to help reduce costs through standardization and scale.
Why Attend
This project builds on the success of the underground BEV guideline but tackles the complexity of surface fleets—bigger equipment, longer haul routes, higher energy demand, and more intricate operational impacts. If your organization is exploring BEVs, planning a transition, or simply trying to understand what’s coming, this session will give you clarity, direction, and a chance to contribute to a global industry effort
If you are unable to attend but are interested in this work, not to worry! This is the first of many meetings – there will be other opportunities to get involved, including an in-person workshop in conjunction with GMG’s Sudbury Forum in June. Stay tuned!
These are sister calls to accommodate for time zones. You only need to register for the one (A or B) that best suits your schedule. A meeting in Spanish will be confirmed shortly.
