GMG Workshops: Drafting Battery Electric Vehicles in Surface Mining Guideline
Published: March 31,2026The next round of workshops is set to advance the drafting of priority sections for the Implementation of BEVs in Surface Mining guideline.
These workshops provide an opportunity for contributors to collaborate directly on core sections, ensuring the guideline reflects diverse expertise and real‑world operational perspectives across the surface mining industry.
This round will focus on the following priority areas:
- Introduction: Purpose and Audience, Scope, Navigating The Guideline
- General Background: Current state of mobile equipment, charging infrastructure, and mining operations
- Business Case: Total cost of ownership, capital and operating costs, HSEC considerations
- Mine Design and Operations: Layout, infrastructure, mobile electric equipment, battery risk management
- Charging Systems and Methods: Charging types and infrastructure
- Performance Standards: Equipment performance
What to Expect
- Following a brief introduction, participants will be invited to select the section they wish to work on and will be assigned to the corresponding breakout room
- Breakout discussions to begin drafting and refining specific sections
- Opportunities to share insights, ask questions, and shape the guideline from the ground up
- Clear next steps for ongoing contributions
Who Should Participate
Professionals involved in surface mining operations, electrification strategy, engineering, safety, technology development, sustainability, OEMs, solution providers, and anyone interested in supporting the transition to BEVs in mining.
Why Participate
This guideline is being developed by the industry, for the industry. Early participation ensures it is practical, relevant, and grounded in operational realities from the outset.
These sessions are structured as sister workshops to support participation across time zones and languages. Participants only need to attend the session that aligns with their schedule (A or B); however, because the drafting work will continue to develop throughout the series, individuals are welcome to join more than one.
