GMG Forum: Johannesburg | March 25-26, 2020

Due to the continued spread of the COVID-19 virus, to ensure the health and safety of the mining community, GMG is turning its focus to planning virtual interactive events – details to come soon. Stay tuned to our news page and social media accounts in the coming weeks for information on new events to participate in.

In 2020, we’re addressing the narrative. Staying true to our goal of facilitating global collaboration, under the theme of Building a Better Future, our 2020 forum series will address many of today’s burning issues that are impacting the mining industry while solving common challenges that continue to prevent major progress.

Our forums, held around the globe, feature experts from inside and outside mining that we bring together to learn from each other’s successes and failures. The forums are a great opportunity to tap into this diverse pool of knowledge and experience.

By working together, we eliminate the roadblocks preventing the industry from achieving progress on a global scale on key aspects such as automation, interoperability, artificial intelligence, data, cybersecurity, electrification and blockchain.

Together, let’s redefine what mining means to society. This is an industry revolution – will you be a part of it?

About SAIMM:

After 125 years the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) continues to serve its members. This learned society started in 1894, a few years after the invention of the cyanide process had saved the gold mining industry in South Africa. The previously used technology of gravity separation could not economically recover gold from the fine grained ores of the Transvaal gold fields. The Institute’s Journal recorded this process and major developments in the industry and has disseminated knowledge ever since.
The SAIMM is a professional institute with local and international links aimed at assisting members source news and views about technological developments in the mining, metallurgical and related sectors as well as embracing a professional code of ethics. The SAIMM also attempts to fulfil what it sees as its obligations to the various communities and the environment in terms of the SAIMM’s Charter. In addition, the institute is active in bringing together the mining and metallurgical fraternity in terms of research, shared-experiences, education, personnel as well as students.
