Cristian López, Director of Innovation, Codelco

Cristian López Peñafiel is the Director of Innovation at El Teniente mine, the largest and most complex underground mining operation in the world. His mission is to promote Mining-IT alignment and Organizational Ambidexterity by leading the digital transformation journey and optimizing the portfolio of inventions to maintain El Teniente mine as a world reference. With a fairly technical engineering background, he has led teams to deliver both operational projects and software solutions for underground and open pit mining operations in multiple disciplines of engineering, including transport, logistics, manufacturing, geotechnics, costs management, and operational optimization.

Carlos Carmona, Executive Director of Interop, FCH

Carlos Carmona, Mining Engineer, University of Chile, has several certifications as an expert in technology applied to mining and over 30 years of professionnal experience. He started his career in mining companies and prestigious institutions: Codelco-Chile, Cochilco and Disputada de Las Condes Mining Company at the El Soldado and Los Bronces mines (formerly Exxon Mobil, currently Anglo American), in the areas of mine operations, mine engineering, process management control, mine planning, mine budget preparation, and evaluation/execution of mining projects. In 2001, he moved to the world of technological services for mining to take part in starting globalization processes of mining services companies from Chile to the rest of the world, developing and leading technological projects for mining in Latin America as well as in Australia and South Africa and becoming General Manager of Modular Mining Systems for Latin America, General Manager & Sales for South America in Trimble Navigation and General Manager of MI Robotic Solutions Company created by Codelco (MIRS SA Chile). He is currently Country Manager of Hexagon Mining Chile and Vice-president of the Institute of Mining Engineers of Chile (IIMCH), Professor in Mining and Natural Resources Department of Universidad Central, recently he was Executive Director of the Interoperability Program in Fundación Chile.

Héctor Valenzuela, Technical Director, Fundacion Chile

Hector M. Valenzuela, Electronic Engineer, Technical University Federico Santa Maria, Chile, M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, USA. He has 40 years of experience, the first 20 years as a Professor of Electrical Engineering teaching and conducting research at Universidad de Concepción, Chile and the Pennsylvania State University, USA. After this, he moved to Chile to join Codelco Mining Company were he spent 20 years in the areas of innovation, technologies for mining and operations. He has managed the innovation portfolio of the Chuquicamata Division, promoting developments in conjunction with technology providers, universities and research centers. During his academic years, he has taught and researched in electrical engineering in the areas of automatic control, digital processing of signals and images, telecommunications and systems analysis. He has book chapters and numerous publications in international journals. Currently, he is the Technical Director of Interop-FCH – a Mining Interoperability Program.

Juan Jara Senior Engineer, Interop, Fundacion Chile

By profession, Juan Jara is a Civil Engineer from the Federico Santa María Technical University. He has 17 years of work experience in the mining field. As manager of technical services, he managed support services, software development and improvement projects in fleet management systems for the client portfolio of the Latin American region composed of the main mining sites in Colombia, Chile and Peru, ensuring commitment to quality levels and generating a high impact on improving the productivity of the mining operations and reducing their operational costs. He has participated in implementation projects of the main dispatch systems in Chile, Peru and Colombia from the design stage of the solution to the start-up. He joined Fundación Chile in 2017, as Technological Manager for the Mining Interoperability Program. Currently, he is Director of Interop-FCH – a Mining Interoperability Program.

Eduardo Lagos is a Mining Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in the Mining Industry. He currently holds the position of Manager Automation, under the Technology Production Systems team at BHP. He is a target-oriented professional with a widely recognized career. He also led the validation of the first implementation of the Autonomous Truck Project in Chile and abroad. He holds a Diploma Degree in Economy of Minerals and Masters in Mining and has experience in project innovation management, implementation and management of technological changes, mining operation management, asset management and mine planning. He has exceptional leadership skills and is capable of building efficient and effective work teams.

Hallen Neris, Regional Maintenance Manager, Glencore

Hallen Neris has a wide experience in mining asset maintenance management, having worked for more than 10 years in large mining industry companies. Has been working with Glencore since 2010 as part of the Cooper division in different operations as Republic Democratic of Congo (Katanga Mining and MUMI Sprl), South Africa, Zambia, Peru, Argentina and Chile. Graduated in Mechanical Engineering with Emphasis in Mechatronics at CTC Colliery Training College in South Africa. Certified by South Africa Mining Qualification Authority – MQA. MBA in Projects Management by Getúlio Vargas Institute – Brazil. Hallen formed part of the group responsible for the implementation of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and Dynamic Life Cycle Costing (DLCC) AMT software used as asset management CMMS for heavy equipment for surface and underground mine in Africa operations raising the asset management activities to a world class standard level. In the last two years, Hallen has been working as Regional Maintenance Manager LATAM, managing continuous improvement and standardization projects in different operations between Chile, Peru and Argentina.

Over the last 4 years, have been promoting IIoT technologies and supporting customers on their digital transformation journey, as a solution architect. This includes all aspects of edge-to-cloud solutions and more specific applications for asset performance management, advanced predictive analytics and process optimization. Is also highly interested in process control and optimization topics, and developed considerable expertise on the OT/IT integration layer, including automation systems, plant historians and MES. More recently, have been involved on pre-sales and commercial activities, but has a long background as technical leader and developer with large field experience.
