GMG Workshop: Implementation of AI in Mining

Join and collaborate in real-time!

With technological ecosystems rapidly changing and companies needing to adapt and manage those changes, the industry would benefit from guidance on implementing AI.

Our aim with the Implementation of AI in Mining guideline project is to leverage lessons learned and case study examples from experience applying AI in mining to develop an implementation guideline and develop a framework for the industry so that organizations can develop a strong business and technological foundation for scalable and successful AI applications.

Additionally, there has been a wide variety of approaches when it comes to the implementation of AI depending on several factors such as the context, maturity and size of the organization. Therefore, the project will aim to explore different tools, approaches and infrastructure models, along with a guiding foundation of the adoption process. Learn more about the project here and read the current white paper here.

Join GMG’s Artificial Intelligence Working Group in a workshop on Implementation of AI project.

GMG is recruiting volunteers willing and able to contribute time and expertise to helping develop a guideline that will benefit the global mining industry. Over the coming months the guideline will be drafted through contribution and collaboration of peers around the globe. The project is relaunching with virtual workshops in the coming weeks to:

  • generate content, sharing expertise and reviewing progress to date
  • identify volunteers willing to share their expertise, creating small work committees to develop different sections of the upcoming guideline

Workshops are scheduled for: May 5 and 26.

Following these relaunch workshops, online collaboration will continue to enable the development of the guideline, including the next virtual workshop scheduled for June 16.

Workshop Prep

To optimize our time together, here are some things to consider (from your and your company’s perspectives) before we meet:

  • Read the current draft of the guideline to familiarize yourself with the contributions to date (in the reminder email you will receive on Monday)
  • Read the GMG Foundations of AI: A Framework of AI in Mining white paper as background material
  • Consider the following:
  1. Please describe if, and why, AI is used at your company
  2. Are there problems in your company that artificial intelligence could help resolve?
  3. What is your role within your company?
  • data scientist
  • manager
  • supplier of solutions
  • interested person who wants to learn more on AI
  1. What are the challenges that you personally, or your company, are experiencing when it comes to applying AI in your work?
  2. Access to data
  • skills on how to apply the data
  • other (please indicate)

How to get involved

There are many ways you can contribute to making this project a valuable guidance document:

  • Share this page throughout your company and with colleagues far and wide with expertise and experience in the implementation of autonomous systems
  • Join the project group!
  • Participate in the workshops to develop pieces of guideline content

Who would be interested in this project

This project would be of interest to mining decision-makers, project managers, professionals of artificial intelligence and related fields, subject matter experts, experienced professionals and mining contractors (EPCMs) responsible for implementation of artificial intelligence.
