Implementation of Autonomous Systems in Mining Guideline V2 – Operational Readiness & Deployment Workshop 1

March 1, 2021 7pm-9:30pm EST | 4:00am-6:30am CET+1 | 8:00am-10:30am AWST+1

Calling all those with technical experience in implementing autonomous systems! In this workshop, you will focus on the sections of the Implementation of Autonomous Systems Guideline V2 listed below to revise and update the existing content in the Operational Readiness and Deployment section of the guideline, which aims to provide general considerations on readiness, deployment, and execution of autonomous systems, and help readers understand the aspects to consider, key questions to ask, and recognize best practices:

  • Review and revise the following subsections
  • 8.1 Mine Planning and Design to Accommodate Autonomous Systems (including content on physical mine planning and design and process redesign)
  • 8.2. System Infrastructure and Architecture (including content on system infrastructure design, architecture, and cybersecurity)
  • 8.3 Engineering Design Management Framework (including content on key challenges, design management, and configuration management
  • Add content to new subsections
  • 8.3.4 Performance and Metrics – a new subsection that aims to provide high-level guidance on metrics for making sure the system performs and is working as designed
  • 8.4 Deployment and Commissioning – a section, which is currently very general and short and requires some expansion to provide more pointed guidance for the industry

Together, you will delineate how these areas within the guideline can be refined, focused, and written. This work may involve considering mining-specific examples drawn from your experience with autonomous systems, key differences between implementing autonomous systems in greenfield vs brownfield sites, and key considerations for different types of autonomous equipment, such as drills or haulage.

About the project:

The first version of the Guideline for the Implementation of Autonomous Systems in Mining is being used within the industry as a playbook for autonomous systems implementation. For suppliers, the guideline provided a way to understand the needs of their customers. Both within and outside the mining industry, Version 1 of the Guideline served as an important educational, communications, and operational tool.

Version 2 will offer an updated approach to the subject to better reflect the current state of the industry This guideline is high-level and intends to provide guidance, questions to ask, and considerations on justifying, planning, developing, testing, implementing, and executing autonomous systems. It offers high-level guidance which recognizes that different levels of autonomous system maturity exist across mining operations and that requirements are varied depending on the type of operation.

Upcoming workshops will address other sections and content of the guideline:

  • Change Management and Business Case – March 17 @ 8:00 am, March 18 @ 7 pm
  • Health and Safety, Regulations, and Workforce Community and Social Impact April 7 @ 8:00 am, April 8 @ 7:00 pm
  • Underground considerations April 26 @ 8:00 am, April 28 @ 7:00 pm

This workshop will be held virtually on two separate dates to accommodate different time zonesClick here to view the other date and time option.
