GMG Forum: Lima
GMG will host a Future Mining Forum in Lima, Peru, in July, our first in Peru, to ensure that they have a strong voice in the global mining community as one of the top mining regions in South America and one of the top base metal producers in the world.
The country has more than 200 active mines, and mined commodities make up more than 60% of Peruvian exports.* Some of the world’s largest mining companies including, among others, Newmont, Glencore, Rio Tinto and Barrick Gold are operating there. The Peruvian industry is growing and has attracted many foreign investors. Lima is the capital and largest city in Peru, home to several universities with mining engineering programs and many equipment and technology suppliers.
This forum will be an opportunity to hear case studies and identify a regional roadmap for Peruvian collaboration. The Peruvian mining industry is an essential voice as the global mining industry discusses how to best make use of advanced technologies in a way that benefits not only the industry but also people and the environment. Social and environmental issues are important challenges for Peru, and advanced technologies such as automation and artificial intelligence, top GMG topics this year, can both provide new challenges and help mitigate some of these issues.
