GMG and CEMI Sign Associate Partnership Agreement to Strengthen Mining Innovation Ecosystem
Published: December 15,2025Sudbury, Ontario – December 15, 2025 — We are pleased to announce that Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG) has signed an Associate Partnership agreement with The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) and its Mining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator (MICA) Network (managed by CEMI).
This collaboration marks a significant milestone in aligning Canada’s national mining innovation ecosystem with the global community of technology leaders driving the digital transformation of mining. The agreement, signed by Chamirai Charles Nyabeze, Vice President of Business Development at CEMI and Network Director of MICA, and Andrew Scott, Interim Co-Chief Executive Officer of GMG, establishes a framework for coordinated innovation, knowledge sharing, and ecosystem engagement.
Accelerating Mining’s Transition Through Collaboration
Under the agreement, CEMI/MICA and GMG will collaborate to:
- Co-develop innovation opportunities that accelerate the commercialization of late-stage mining technologies;
- Share knowledge and success stories across their respective networks to enhance global visibility of Canadian innovations;
- Support joint conferences, events, and outreach initiatives that connect innovators, operators, and communities;
- Facilitate data and information exchange to improve ecosystem transparency and enable collective growth;
- Advance sustainable and smart mining practices through coordinated engagement of mining, technology, and community stakeholders.
“This partnership underscores our shared commitment to fostering global collaboration in mining innovation,” said Nyabeze. “By connecting MICA’s commercialization capacity with GMG’s global guidelines platform, we are helping accelerate the adoption of breakthrough technologies that will define the next generation of mining operations.”
“True industry transformation happens when innovators, operators, and solution providers work from a shared foundation and goal of uniting the global industry around shared priorities, accelerating responsible innovation, and ensuring new technologies, processes and methodologies translate into real operational value,” said Scott. “By connecting CEMI and MICA’s commercialization strengths with GMG’s global community and guideline framework, we’re enabling transformation in mining on a worldwide scale.”
“The mining industry is at a pivotal point where global collaboration and practical innovation must come together to achieve transformative outcomes,” said Douglas Morrison, President and CEO of CEMI. “Our agreement with GMG expands the reach of Canada’s innovation ecosystem, helping ensure that the technologies developed here are tested, validated, and deployed around the world — creating value for industry, communities, and the environment alike.”
A Shared Vision for Mining’s Future
The MICA Network, launched in July 2021 and supported by the Government of Canada’s Strategic Innovation Fund, has become a $300 million national innovation ecosystem uniting over 300 organizations across Canada and abroad. GMG, with its global membership of mining companies, OEMs, and technology providers, is an internationally recognized platform for collaboration and standardization in mining innovation.
Through this new partnership, both organizations reaffirm their commitment to advancing a sustainable, productive, and technology-driven mining industry that benefits Canada and the world.
