GMG Asset Management Working Group Call
Published: July 23,2026Join us for an hour focused on practical, operations‑ready approaches to asset integrity and performance in today’s evolving mining environment.
Dr. Mary McGeoch, an engineering asset management executive with more than 26 years of experience across major mining portfolios, will share how emerging technologies can be embedded into integrity practice in ways that actually work on site. Her session, Seeing It Coming: Emerging Technologies & Asset Integrity in Mining, explores how linking risk to asset criticality, building defensible inspection and assurance regimes, and creating operational readiness can help teams anticipate catastrophic failures long before they occur.
Following Mary’s presentation, GMG will provide an update on the work underway in the Asset Management Working Group, including progress on the Time Usage Model projects and next steps for industry collaboration.
This session is designed for operations and maintenance managers looking for practical, evidence‑based approaches to improving asset reliability, integrating new technologies, and strengthening site‑level decision‑making.

Mary McGeoch is a senior engineering asset management executive with more than 26 years of leadership experience across asset‑intensive industries, including the global mining sector. She has held senior roles with Rio Tinto and BHP, leading multidisciplinary teams focused on engineering assurance, operational performance and asset optimisation. Through her firm, The Asset Plan, she also advises mining, energy and infrastructure organisations on improving asset performance and managing operational risk.
Mary’s work centres on the technological transformation of complex operations, particularly the integration of advanced analytics, automation and emerging technologies. She holds a PhD in Strategic Engineering Asset Management and brings a deep, practical understanding of how technology, people and operating systems intersect.
Abstract:
Catastrophic asset failures in mining can be anticipated, if you know where to look. Yet, AI pilots, digital twins and predictive analytics PoCs seldom deliver the sustained operational use needed to see them coming.
This session examines embedding emerging technologies into asset integrity practice: linking risk to asset criticality, building defensible inspection and assurance regimes, and creating the operational readiness for integrity decisions to survive cost pressure.
