Purpose-Driven Smart Mining: Technology Applied to Operational Value

The GMG Lima 2026 Forum invites the Latin American mining community to two days of technical sessions at UTEC in Barranco, Lima. The focus is on the step the industry has yet to take: turning proven technology into sustained operational results.

GMG is a global network of mining companies, equipment manufacturers, technology providers, and research organizations that develops multidisciplinary guidelines recognized internationally. Its work is organized into working groups—autonomous mining, asset management, mineral processing, sustainability, cybersecurity, underground mining, AI, and data—and its open-access publications are used to manage risk, improve performance, and inform planning and investment decisions in operations around the world.

The Lima 2026 Forum establishes this collaborative platform in Peru.

Day 1: Artificial Intelligence, Data, and Operational Autonomy From isolated pilot projects to measurable operational value: real-world conditions for scaling up, integrating AI into decision-making cycles, and the degree of autonomy an operation is capable of assuming.

Day 2: Geometallurgy and Mineral Processing Interoperability between geology, the laboratory, metallurgy, and the plant; and the representativeness of samples, data, and models as the basis for decisions that stand up to technical review.

Workshop Format: The program combines short presentations with hands-on sessions: Pilot-to-Value, Decision Loop Challenge, Geomet Data Clinic, and Representativity Challenge. Each session focuses on a specific case study and produces a documented outcome as a contribution to the global community.

Impactful Participation Contributions from the region serve as direct input for GMG’s ongoing lines of work—characterization, modeling, and reconciliation—where Latin American practice is still underrepresented.

Participating means contributing to the material that the industry will use in the future.

LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE

TOURS

Tours extend the conversation beyond the meeting room and into real operating environments. See innovation in action, engage directly with hosts and technical experts, and explore how new technologies and approaches are being implemented in practice. It’s a chance to move from theory to application — and to leave with tangible insights you can bring back to your own operation.

Tours will have a limited capacity and will run on a first-come first-served basis. Email events@gmggroup.org to reserve your spot.
