Pushing the Envelope on Digitalization and the Use of Technology. Why and for What value?  ChatOBK (Ore Body Knowledge) Anyone?

Speaker: David Lawie, Chief Geoscientist and Chief Technologist – Mining, IMDEX

There’s nothing artificial about the level of intelligence being delivered in the mining sector today thanks to rapid technological change and innovation. But to talk of Artificial Intelligence means to ChatOBK (Ore Body Knowledge). There is no AI (nor ML) in mining without upstream data collection through the Internet of Geosensing, the supplier of ore body knowledge to enable AI to optimise mining operations. And yet the importance to the entire mining value chain of OBK gathered during exploration through to blasting is yet to be fully understood. We now have at our fingertips access to more data than ever before. But is it a case of being data rich but knowledge poor? To know the cost of everything but value of nothing?  And how do we ensure the next generation of data analysts and geoscientists are properly trained to mine these rich veins of information to extract their true value?
