In-Person Workshop | Time Usage Model for Underground Mining
Published: May 02,2025This is one of two separate and interactive workshops GMG is hosting in Sudbury, designed to complement the events at the Sudbury Forum (June 10-11). These sessions allow dedicated time outside of the Forum program to dive deeper into key industry challenges and contribute to GMG’s ongoing project work. While closely aligned with the Forum, the workshops are separately organized and require separate registration.
In the afternoon, check out the Framework for Safe Mixed Fleet Operations in Underground Mining workshop.
Join us for an in-person workshop focused on refining the Equipment Time Usage Model and At-Face Classification Framework for underground mining operations.
This session, led by Boliden’s Alexandra Voronchikhina and Agnico Eagle’s Justin Lustik, is part of a new global effort to advance GMG’s project work through in-person collaboration. We will review the working drafts of these models, ensuring alignment with surface equipment time tracking and improving classification frameworks for underground operational activities. Your input will help shape a more consistent approach to performance analysis and benchmarking across the mining industry.
About this Project
The TUM for Underground Mining is a guideline which recommends and applies consistent classification of common underground mining operational activities into standard time categories. The TUM will be a visual representation of the recommended classification framework and will include details on how it relates to other mining processes such as short interval control, block caving, planning, etc. It will look at the full cycle of the mine as a tool for making the full mine more efficient and improve alignment in the industry on definitions across the site.
