In-Person Workshop | Implementing BEVs in Surface Mining: Definition Workshop
Published: June 27,2025This is one of four separate and interactive workshops GMG is hosting in Brisbane, designed to complement the events at the Brisbane Forum (July 16-17). These sessions allow dedicated time outside of the Forum program to dive deeper into key industry challenges and contribute to GMG’s ongoing project work. While closely aligned with the Forum, the workshops are separately organized and require separate registration.
Electrifying surface fleets is a critical step toward achieving mining’s decarbonization goals—but implementing battery electric vehicles (BEVs) at scale comes with major technical and operational challenges. From charging infrastructure and power management to safety, maintenance, and workforce readiness, many unknowns remain.
This workshop will be the first step in developing a new GMG guideline to support the implementation of BEVs in surface mining. It will focus on identifying the key elements the guideline must address and building a clear structure for its development. The project aims to create practical, non-prescriptive guidance to help companies prepare for and navigate real-world deployment challenges—particularly in areas such as operational readiness, charging solutions, and system integration.
Topics will include:
- Site preparation and mine planning considerations for electrification
- Charging infrastructure (stationary and dynamic) and energy demand
- Operational and maintenance readiness
- Safety requirements for high-voltage systems
- Workforce training and digital system needs
This session is ideal for mining companies, OEMs, tech providers, and integrators involved in fleet strategy, operations, infrastructure, or decarbonization planning.
Coffee and tea provided. No lunch.
