In-Person Workshop | Underground Communications Infrastructure: From Installation to End-of-Life

Published: June 27,2025

This is one of four separate and interactive workshops GMG is hosting in Brisbane, designed to complement the events at the Brisbane Forum (July 16-17). These sessions allow dedicated time outside of the Forum program to dive deeper into key industry challenges and contribute to GMG’s ongoing project work. While closely aligned with the Forum, the workshops are separately organized and require separate registration.

This technical workshop will focus on the later stages of the underground communications infrastructure lifecycle, supporting the development of GMG’s updated industry guideline. Participants will contribute practical insights and peer-reviewed practices to finalize three key sections:

  • Installation & Commissioning – including processes for installation alongside mining development, handover protocols, and commissioning methodologies for different technologies (Wi-Fi, LTE, leaky feeder)
  • Operation & Maintenance – covering performance monitoring, fault response, SLAs, maintenance planning, and organizational structures for sustaining communications systems
  • Disposal & Refreshing – addressing end-of-life planning, equipment replacement strategies, data handling, and safe, ethical disposal
The session is intended for practitioners with operational, engineering, or IT/OT experience in underground communications. Outcomes will directly shape the final version of the guideline.

Coffee and tea provided.
