Operational KPIs

Objective

To develop standard definitions and terminology for production data and operational KPIs for reporting and classifying operational activities for surface mining, enabling a common basis for production reporting and performance comparisons.

Description

This project aims to identify common surface mining operational activities, events, and statuses. It classifies these, contributed by participating companies, into a Time Usage Model (TUM), which forms the basis for standardized common key performance definitions and indicators. The draft TUM is now in use as a pilot to capture operational activities. It is currently in the validation process.

Business Case

Performance improvement requires setting clear expectations and benchmarks and understanding where to find opportunities. This guideline and TUM, by developing standard definitions and terminology will provide this necessary clarity around how activities are reported, enabling operators to compare their performance to industry peers.

This benchmark will help identify industry leaders and best practices leading to superior performance and collaboration, which will ultimately enable industry practices to improve continually, benefiting the collective industry.
