Rethinking Mine Design in Underground Mining Workshop

Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG) is hosting a workshop on Mine Design in Underground Mining. This workshop is for those with knowledge and expertise in underground mining to contribute to the content of the white paper. Learn more about the project here.

About the White Paper

As mining technologies are evolving, the implementation of new technologies and processes in both existing and new mines can be tricky. Underground mines have unique design, infrastructure, and safety challenges. Additionally, they also require sophisticated communications technologies to support other technological advancements.

Purpose of the Workshop:

The objective of this project is to publish a collaborative white paper that can help the industry understand common considerations and new approaches to mine designs, specifically related to key topics and considerations related to mine design in underground mining. Some of these items that will be discussed as content for the white paper include:

  • Mine layout and infrastructure
  • Automation and electric mines
  • Change management, fleet management, and ground support
  • Challenges to mining companies when implementing new technology
  • Aspects of mine design that are specific to underground mining
