Russian translation of GMG Guideline for the Implementation of Autonomous Systems in Mining now available

The Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG) is working with autonomous solutions provider RCT to translate the recently published GMG Guideline for the Implementation of Autonomous Systems in Mining. The Russian translation is now available.

GMG is a global organization with members, participants and partners all over the world. Having the guidelines available in multiple languages benefits everyone. GMG Managing Director Heather Ednie says “Our vision is to enable a safe, innovative, productive and sustainable future for the global mining industry. By making guidelines available in more languages, we expand their reach and application into areas and onto sites where English is not the primary language. This will benefit operator-supplier relationship.”

The guideline provides a framework for mining stakeholders to follow when establishing autonomous mining projects ranging from single autonomous vehicles and hybrid fleets to highly autonomous fleets. It offers guidance on how stakeholders should approach autonomous mining and describes common practices. More specifically, the publication addresses change management, developing a business case, health and safety and risk management, regulatory engagement, community and social impact, and operational readiness and deployment.

As an autonomous solutions provider, RCT sees merit in sharing guidelines across their international customer base so that they can study them when considering the advantages automation can bring in surface and underground mining activities.

RCT Commercial Executive Phil Goode says, “we have found that mining companies in Russia and Chile, for example, prefer to access wide-ranging documentation to develop their decisions from, so we have helped translate some guidelines into local languages to assist with the decision-making processes.”

RCT participated in the development of this guideline through the GMG Autonomous Mining Working Group and continues to participate in GMG activities.

Goode recommends the guideline as a useful reference to any mining company considering implementing some level of automation in their mining operation. “The guideline offers a framework to plan change management which is essential in the transition from conventional mining to higher levels of automation on digital platforms,” he says.
