Marcus Thomson

As Business Development Manager, Marcus makes connections and creates opportunities between GMG’s projects, partners, and members.  Then, he cold calls billionaire investors and unsuccessfully pitches exclusive naming rights for GMG guidelines. Though he holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Business Administration from Laurentian University, he rarely uses business buzzwords like ‘corporate synergy’, ‘paradigm shift’, or offers to ‘put a pin’ in things.

To start his career, he worked in industrial, corporate software, and telecommunications verticals.  However, a decade ago, when he moved home to Sudbury, Ontario (where mining makes up most of the economy), he made the easy choice to become interested in mining.  He became driven to help the global mining industry and has worked with other leading mining innovation programs within NORCAT and CEMI.  He joined GMG in 2018 after being an active contributor to guideline development; and by offering to be the official GMG taste tester in case anyone’s food is either poisoned or delicious.

In addition to his primary job functions, he has been recognized as a supporter of workplace diversity and as an early adopter of technology.  He enjoys sharing Virtual Reality demonstrations, Zoom lighting tips, and email productivity hacks with his fellow team members.
