05 May Valerie Ziegler
Valerie joined GMG in the spring of 2021 from the non-profit sector, having previously worked tackling issues from food insecurity, to gender inequality, and road safety in communities across Canada and in East Africa. As an advocate for continuous improvement and adaptation, whether personally or at the industry level, Valerie is keen to work with GMG to support the work being done to make the mining industry safer and more sustainable.
Valerie holds a MA in International Development Studies with a focus on sustainability from the Université Grenoble-Alpes in France and a BA in Political Science from the University of Victoria, Canada, during which she spent a semester abroad at the University of Hong Kong. In addition to studying on three continents, Valerie’s worldview and perspective are also shaped by her experiences living and working in East Africa and Bahrain.
When she’s not working, Valerie can be found exploring her neighbourhood markets and parks or enjoying the outdoors – where you’re more likely to find her climbing a mountain in the snow than hanging out at the beach.
