In-Person Workshop: Updating the Mining Time Usage Model, KPIs and Definitions
Published: October 31,2025Mining companies rely on time usage models and equipment performance data to understand where the hours go — and where value is gained or lost. But as fleets evolve, autonomy expands, and data sources multiply, inconsistencies in how we define and measure time categories make it harder to compare, benchmark, or improve performance.
This GMG workshop will bring together operations, reliability, and data specialists from surface mines across Western Canada to update the Mining Time Usage Model, its KPIs, and related definitions. Participants will review the current model, identify gaps or areas needing revision, and share how their own sites define and track time categories. The aim is to develop a consensus model — one that won’t perfectly fit every operation but provides a strong, shared foundation that reflects today’s mining reality.
Workshop goals:
- Gather input from mining companies on the current model, KPIs, and definitions.
- Identify where updates or clarifications are needed.
- Understand differences in how companies categorize and report time data.
- Work toward a common framework that supports both manned and autonomous fleets.
Why it’s valuable to attend:
- Ensure your site’s data and reporting frameworks align with an evolving industry standard.
- Help shape a model already being used and adapted across many mining operations and benchmarking programs.
- Reduce inconsistencies between operational data and management reporting.
- Exchange practical insights with peers who are working through the same data and performance challenges.
This is a working session — not a conference. The outcomes will directly shape the updated GMG guideline and shared industry framework used globally for fleet performance and productivity analysis.
